I think I'll stick to my own plan and let experience dictate what's easier or not instead of relying on your presumption.

The solution is to sell the older and purchase the newer. You need to look closer at the 2 devices. it would just be easier just to switch out the buttons rather than having to sell one unit and buying another

just wished retrospectively that I had bought the newer version as I'm contemplating switch to NBT evo. I ended up buying a ceramic touch controller. You don't need to take the controller out of the car or remove anything else. The owner may remove the CCC unit and try to heat the onboard chips with a heat gun. Some common BMW CCC failure is due to a processor chip partially separated from the PCB or a failed capacitor. Unfortunately, many BMW CCC units fail after five years of use. You only need to follow from 3:10 - 5:30. CIC is a newer system and more powerful than CCC. I feel your pain, I had my whole dash assembly taken apart twice and replace once in my 08 GS350, next winter, the rattle came right back.
#Fix f10 idrive controller getting stuck on right side how to#
See this video for how to remove the top part of the knob (ceramic and standard are the same). I think it's different in Germany (where the car was bought by the first owner) and from what I can see in Denmark, where I live, most cars have the small iDrive wheel except for cars with navigation pro.īut to get back to my original question - is it possible to just swap the wheel itself if that's the only difference between the two since I don't care about the touch part ? Pull it out, snap the top of the knob back on, making sure to align with plastic pins and you're done. Surprised you do not have a touch controller already. This means you would have to do some rewiring in the car. I fully expect you have a CIC or early NBT unit which works on KCAN and the larger iDrive Controllers work on KCAN2, a different bus. So is worth spending 120$ on a new iDrive controller or can exchange the wheel itself on my current ? just find a picture online to visualise what I'm babbling about. disregard the cd button on the image below. so no touch or ceramic or anything - just 1:1. however seeing as the one I have sports five buttons at the top media, radio, menu, telephone and navigation wouldn't I just be better off replacing the small wheel with a bigger one ? If possible ? Or what am I missing ? Obviously I'm comparing two identical setups other than the size of the wheel. If you decide that you need a controller with a 10-pin connector, I have one that I'm not using as I ended up getting a touch controller. Can anyone explain the differences between the iDrive controllers ? I mean besides the obvious being the size of the wheel ? I currently have the one with the small wheel and was contemplating going for the bigger one. The rest of the pins go to the parking assist/ hill descent control/omnidirectional camera buttons on the center console, so those might stop working if you use a 4-pin controller. Been using google maps which keeps disconnecting from the car. Or maybe you could take a sharp knife to the 10-pin connector and chop off the rest of the pins (i've done this to other parts where I had a spare 20-pin connector in my parts bin but needed a 4-pin) Like you, when i start car the nav works fine, then 2 mins in the starting nav screen comes up, followed by the first pop up saying, Data on USB device unusable. I was able to get my 10-pin iDrive controller to work with my 4-pin cable/car by just shoving the cable into the first 4 pins of the controller.įor a 10-pin car, if you have a 4-pin cable scrap you can re-pin the first 4 pins from the 10-pin connector, as that is all that is needed for the controller to work.
